The International Centre for Responsible Tourism global (ICRT global) has announced an opportunity for final year undergraduate and masters students to research and publish Responsible Tourism Case Studies, based on the winners of the ICRT Global Responsible Tourism Awards.
The ICRT Global Responsible Tourism Awards have been running and gaining prestige since 2004 and are deliberately free to enter to encourage the widest range of submissions and fresh thinking. From the outset, the judges’ purpose has been to identify proven examples of businesses and destinations that have demonstrably improved tourism. These awards are distinctive because the judges provide a citation explaining why each award is given.
Chair of the judges, Harold Goodwin, ICRT global founder said: “To increase the impact of the Responsible Tourism Awards awards and accelerate change, we want to inspire and encourage more businesses and destinations to adopt and adapt the examples identified through the awards to spread good practices. That’s why we are looking for undergraduate and masters students to write case studies of the award winners, explaining why each winner chose to take responsibility, what and how they did it and the impact.”
Case studies based on winners of the Global Responsible Tourism Awards could be set as coursework and marked by course tutors. From 2026, ICRT global will also annually publish the Progress in Responsible Tourism Journal and include these case studies.
Students can learn about and write up a recognised exemplary case study, adding to their CV with a published peer-reviewed article. Institutions will benefit from adding this opportunity to the curriculum they offer.

There will be six categories in 2026 including nature positive, diversity equity and inclusion, climate adaptation, creating economic benefit, cultural preservation and regenerative tourism. Each of the six award categories are first judged on a regional basis in Latin America, Africa, Europe, The Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and through a “worldwide” regional award for applicants in North America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Australasia, Japan and China. The gold winners from each of the six regions then go on to contend for a Global Responsible Tourism Award.
