New dates for professional development courses described as “relevant and thought-provoking” and “transformative” by former students have been announced by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism global for the second half of 2026.
The next Professional Certificate Courses in Responsible Tourism ten week course starts on 10 September. Each covers the essential principles of how to ensure tourism makes places better for people to live in and people to visit.
The next Professional Certificate in Rebalancing Tourism course starts on 8 October. This twelve-week online course reviews the multiple causes and issues of unbalanced tourism and then provides a toolbox of options and a rich mix of case studies to inspire ways to prevent, and to address overtourism.
ICRT global will also be launching a Professional Certificate in Creating Economic Value
Self-study options are available for all courses which can be started at any time.
All ICRT global courses have been created by world-leading expert Emeritus Professor Harold Goodwin and are designed to fit around busy mid-career professionals. Each course requires just two hours of reading a week and delivery of a short four page final report which identifies practical ways in which ideas studied can be put into practice. Students also have continuous access to the course materials as a source of reference for the future. ICRT global Professional Certificate courses are £395 including the certificate and more information and booking details are available on the ICRT global learning platform
Previous students have rated the courses highly:
Tess Longfield sustainability leader posted on LinkedIn “If you’re also a lifelong learner and would like to deepen your knowledge of responsible tourism, I urge you to enrol onto ICRT global’s next course. I highly recommend the course for the combination of excellent content, an engaged and passionate cohort…and truly supportive and accessible course leaders, Debbie and esteemed Professor Harold Goodwin. It’s affordable, great value for money and there’s a new cohort starting next week!”
Carol Hay, tourism learning and development expert and an ICRT global special advisor said in June 2026 : “This is an informative and inspirational programme that builds knowledge and understanding on responsible tourism. There are so many interesting case studies, topics and links to white papers. But what really stood out for me was the Experience Economy and the impact of tourism on communities if it is not managed responsibly!”
Emily Downes, market and commercial readiness for DMCs said: “The ICRT professional certificate in Responsible Tourism was a great way to consolidate and build upon my knowledge, learning directly from industry leaders both running and participating in the course. The course itself is very well organised and full of rich, relevant and thought-provoking content. It’s been a long time since I last studied and I thoroughly enjoyed it!” You can read a summary of Emily’s course report on ethical partnerships betweem tour operators and DMCs here
Helen Batte, freelance travel copywriter and content strategist “I thoroughly enjoyed the ICRT course on Responsible Tourism. It challenged me to think differently about what sustainable travel is, and how I can make a difference through my work.”
Ewan Cluckie, chief growth officer and co-founder of the Tripseed in Thailand said:“The course provided some exceptionally valuable insights into responsible tourism and gave me actionable ideas that I can carry forward into my work to help build a better and fairer travel industry for all.
Steven Keen, founder of Cretan said:“This course has been nothing short of transformative. It’s rare to encounter learning that resonates this deeply—not just intellectually, but emotionally too. What you’ve created is so much more than a course; it feels like a compass for anyone striving to shape a more responsible and sustainable future. It’s insightful, grounded, and clear—but also warm, human, and full of heart. At times, it felt like being welcomed into a small, wise family. As I was writing my final report, I realised just how much direction and clarity the course has already given me for the work we’re doing here in Crete. The impact is real, immediate, and I know it will only grow from here.”
Katie Cosstick communications manager at the Latin America Travel Association said the Professional Certificate in Responsible Tourism covered: “really interesting content which made me think about my own holiday choices as well going back to the definitions of what responsible and sustainable mean. Understanding the meaning helps communicate sustainability better, without fearing greenwashing or hushing. It has reinforced that tourism can and should make a positive impact as well as highlight the ongoing issues and challenges we have as an industry.
Ollie Payton, ESG analyst at easyjet holidays has taken both ICRT global courses and said the Rebalancing Tourism course is “an exceptional course covering the complexities of over tourism in a digestible format. The course presented the problems and possible solutions, and I would encourage any tourism stakeholder to enrol in the course. The calls with fellow students from around the world provided a unique opportunity to learn about over tourism issues around the world, and to connect with individuals with different positions of power in the tourism industry.”
Ali Hochberg, a consultant based in Bermuda has also taken both ICRT professional certificates. She recently posted on LinkedIn: “I honestly cannot recommend this course enough. I’ve used more material for my “IRL jobs” from the two International Centre for Responsible Tourism global courses I’ve taken this year, than anything else I’ve taken over the last two years.”

And other student comments have included:
“It took a very organised approach in terms of the course structure, making it very digestible despite covering some complex topics”
“The calls and contact through whatsapp with other students was a highlight of the course.”
“I loved the academic rigour of the course and the fact that it wasn’t bogged down in some corporate agenda as most executive level courses are these days. It was great to see some unbiased viewpoints that tell it how it is.”
“Informative and very in-depth I liked the level of detail and the fact it made me consider how the tourism industry uses public spaces.”
“The reading material was easy to read, and I enjoyed the amount of additional resources and the zoom discussions!”
